very sian

Due to the lack of discipline that make me show little results in slimming down, I've decided to suspend this diary for the moment. Among other reasons of being very angry and disappointed with someone.

In whichever case, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Tien and Jennifer from Food#03 and KK who's a regular there for been ever so supportive. I am not giving it up totally but doing at a much slower pace. I prefer a more subtle and reserved approach because I had had enough of certain ridicule or even to say temptations to break my promise.

One of these days when I'm free and less negative mindstate in the head, I might consider to carry on with this. There are no guarantees as everyone else around me knows that I never fulfill my promise when come to getting fit and slimming down.

Meantime, take care.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-48 03.03.09

I told my doctor I wear my uniform and running around with heavy loads like monkey almost every single day when I was in the army. She smiled and replied, you can do it now too.

Really, words are cheap and talks are free.

However, the doctor did ask me am I happy with the slimming diet I'm going through now. She said it's important not to do things that you don't like. She got me trapped. Seriously, I don't find myself enjoy eatig vegies. But it has been some time and seriously, even when I am taking meat now, there's really a rejecting thing going on in my head. I put on nearly 2kg on the whole. My muscle mass increase 900 grams. But I still feel that it's bad. It's the 37th day and I'm so far from my target. Blame it on the instant mee, the chicken rice and whatnot, end of the day, the blame's on me. 'cos I'm the one who chose to eat them. I should really follow the 'rejections' that kept coming up in my mind. Keeping these unhealthy food now is very important.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-21 04.02.09

I have wishfully hoped that I could follow through a strict vegetarian or raw diet regime for a month. It had not happened because I think I find it difficult for me to adjust. The maximum I could go was 2 days? So what I am doing now, instead of changing diet completely, I substitute at least 1 meal a day to vegetarian/raw diet. I do hope I can do like at least 10 days of strict vegetarian/raw diet. I was told that I could tell a lot of difference. I do hope eventually I can be a vegetarian or say, eating very minimal meat kind of person.

Here it goes for Day 21:-

breakfast:- 1 plate of assorted fried rice that has egg and some meat with curry chup chai, 1 piece of fried luncheon meat, 1 cup of teh-o

lunch:- 1 box of fried rice, 1 box of salad with sour sauce (is it the right term? it looks like mayo though) from Food#03

snack:- 1 piece of handmade almond chocolate cookie (the colleague who offered me this, who is quite pretty, told me that guys need not slim down, how wrong can she be! =P)

dinner:- 1 plate of steamed chicken rice with roasted pork

I find that so far my dieting is an interesting journey. It has somehow coupled with spirituality. I got to know this guy from K at Food#03. K is a buddhist and he has been sharing how he adapt into vegetarian and has been giving me tips on how to make varieties like adding honey to coffee, to make things more tasty. It is afterall, the taste that we are going after. K mentioned that if I put too much pressure into telling myself to avoid taking meat, I will find it more difficult. This is because when we reject something, we are simply putting energy into it and allowing that thing to grow into a stronger desire.

I think I have slowly moved out of that phase. Most of the grilled chicken set were taken under this sort of mind set. It's like I want to reward myself for staying put as vegetarian for a few days. But knowing that it seems to be a big contributor in fats, cholesterol and what-have-you, I still consume it! Day 21's dinner is a little different. It sort of become more mindful. There was less struggle in consuming it but more guilt after I had my first bite on it. So I think this mindfulness is an interesting thing that is running in the mind.

However, K did tell me it's okay that I give myself a nice treat once in a while. Don't torture myself overboard. I like his emphasis on 大自在. 大自在, is a buddihst term that means the Great Liberation. It's interesting to see eating and spirituality combine. Okay la, it's a bit tad of scary too.

Afterall, I have to buck up a bit more. This is because I have a bet with Snoopy that by the time he comes back from Thailand, I would have lost 15kg. That means I have to be around 85kg when he's back. I think he's coming back sometime in June or July. Wait, what have we bet on? Hmm.

Tien, the boss and chef at Food#03 has been very encouraging also. I like that special weighing machine that he has. I am very concerned with the metabolic age thingy. I don't really mind what it means but to see I'm 50 years old is damn sad can?

Haha.

And yes, all efforts would have made to waste so far. Today just let go. Anyway, while I was having my noodles, I was very disgusted with that wooden round disposable chopsticks that we usually see at foodcourt. Don't you find that chopsticks is so smelly? In fact I find it a stench. I literally put the chopsticks aside and ate my noodles with only a spoon. I am so disgusted when I see so many people eating with that chopsticks.

The next time when I eat out, it will really depends on the type of apparatus available for me.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-13 27.01.09

Pineapple tarts became my breakfast and had my favourite Ajisen Ton Toro Ramen as lunch. But I'm dragged to think that I am going to start near-raw the next day when my mom isn't helping by making stewed chicken pot for the dinner next day.

Sighs.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-9 23.01.09

This is what I have eaten so far and I had taken meat!:-

past midnight:- 1 bottle of Yakult original and orange flavour

breakfast:- prawn rolls (same as the previous day) and 2 slices of Gardenia wholemeal bread spread with Snow margarine

lunch:- white rice, some stir-fried beancurd with egg-fillings, spicy diced chicken, honey-glazed chicken wings, 1 cup of teh-o

snacking:- prawn rolls again!!!

late night dinner at Food#03:- chup chai pasta, salad, a kind of tomato and don't-know-what soup with bread

My weight is 99.8kg!!! It has shoot up again. Tien and I were wondering why. Probably it will be more sitable to go more intense after Chinese New Year! Anyway the chup chai pasta really very nice. I like that sour-sour type of taste. It's very appetitizing.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-8 22.01.09

Here we go for my daily checklist!:-

past midnight:- 1 packet of Yeo's low sugar chrsanthenum drink late

breakfast:- 1 mug of milo, 4 slices of Gardenia wholemeal bread with Snow margarine

lunch:- 1 small container of salad from Food#03, 1 apple

snacks:- few pieces of prawn roll (the Chinese New Year delicacies)

dinner: 1 big bowl of sliced fish soup that comes with Si Chuan Cai and tomatoes, 1 small container of salad from Food#03, a kind of red-coloured soup from Food#03 which I only drank like 6 teaspoons, many raw lettuce leaves

I find my mom very cute. She tried that red-coloured soup and in fact she drank more than I did! She told me she didn't like the taste but don't want to waste it. So every spoon she drank, she quickly ate some vegetables or Si Chuan Cai to do away the taste that the both of us are not used to it. Heh.

yamizi's slimming challenge day-7 21.01.09

So far so good!:-

breakfast:- 1 mug of milo and 4 slices of Gardenia wholemeal bread spread with Snow margarine

lunch:- 1 box of yu-sheng-look-alike salad that came with sauces from Food#03, 2 small chilled bananas, 1 pear and 1 apple

snack: 1 x Old Chang Kee pineapple pie

dinner: 1 plate of Food#03 Creamy Mushroom Pasta and 1 glass of pear-date-drink (???)

Chilled bananas taste nice but I believe they made my tummy tumble.

Successfully avoid meat today =P

yamizi's slimming challenge day-6 20.01.09

Yes! I took meat today!!!:-
breakfast: vegetarian vermicilli with mock fish and goose, teh-o

lunch:- 1 cup of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice with sour plum

early dinner:- 1 bowl of prawn mee soup that comes with lean meat and lard!!!

dinner??:- some steamed fish (very sweet and nice), mushrooms, raw and cooked lettuce, lean meat, a boiled egg

misc:- 2 cups of peppermint tea

The adventure of eating prawn mee was interesting. I passed by the stall during lunch time. At that time, I did think of wanting to eat the prawn mee but I passed it. It was when I passed by there again in the afternoon, then I ate it. I was quite hungry as I only had a drink for lunch. In my mind, I was cancelling out roast pork rice, chicken rice, mee hoon kuay, etc. Sounds very high carbo. So I went for prawn mee soup. And yes the lards were nice =P

The main issue I felt was don't be too harsh to my body. Tomorrow should be able to undertake it properly...

yamizi's slimming challenge day-3 17.01.09

I forgot to update about my weight. I took my weight last night, I weigh 99 kg now. I am not sure is it really that I have lost 2 kg in just 2 days or somehow I lose some weight along the way. Anyway, I think today's diet is not going to impressive.

Ah...I know many of you is going to laugh at me. I am laughing at myself too. I had wanted to go for a swim earlier but is feeling feverish from then till now.

yamizi's near-raw diet challenge day-2 16.01.09

Notice the change of title? After careful consideration that since I am not having my near-raw diet daily or might even give up near-raw diet, therefore the change of the title. The primary aim for this dieting is to lose weight anyway.

I think I may have this psychological blockage about eating raw vegetables. After some verification, I did manage to consume some of the raw food but green ones. I even felt a little nausea when I was having my salad for lunch and I assure you that it's neither the taste or smell. The mind just triggered like that.

Anyway this is what I had eaten on day 2:-

Breakfast:- 1 mug of milo, 2 slices of Gardenia wholemeal bread spread with Snow margarine snacks:- 4 pieces of almond cookies and 2 pieces of pineapple tarts (homemade by my colleague)

Lunch:- 1 box of Pumpkin Rice, 1 box of salad with salsa sauce all from Food#03

snacks:- 3 pieces of chocolate given by my colleague, 1 pineapple pie from Old Chang Kee

Dinner:- 2 chilled bananas

snacks:- 1 bitter-lemon from Food#03

yamizi's near-raw diet challenge day-1 15.01.2009

Good evening! Today is the first day of my diet challenge. And it really has proven to be a challenge for me so far! I had actually took the pictures of the food with my colleague's camera phone, however, he didn't email me the pictures! So forget it lah.

As mention, I will attempt this near-raw diet on my working days. Therefore, on non-working days, I will resume my default non-vegetarian dietary, however, will be moderate, if not would have waste the effort! I will track down the type of workout I do if I do happen to do them.

The first concern for this diet challenge is my mom. Little did I expect I had to take so many boxes home last night. I was anticipating that my mom would jump at me for taking quite some spaces in the fridge but she didn't. From her expression, I guessed that she was sort of half encouraging me and half bewildered. Because I am not exactly a person who eat green.

Another challenge is the stare from my colleagues. All of them were stunned at first glance of me eating the greens but all of them said actually the food looks delicious.

A bit of information about my current status. My height is 173 cm and my weight is 101 kg or more. From tomorrow onwards, I will monitor my weight on everyday Friday. And see how it drops. My ideal weight is about 70 kg. But I had never hit that. My 'lightest' weight was about 75 kg. To me, I am happy if I can hit back 80 kg.

Anyway, this is what I had consumed:

Pass midnight (I reached home late last night):- 1 mug of freshly squeeze orange juice

Breakfast:- 1 mug of milo (2 spoons of milo and 2 teaspoons of sugar), 5 slices of Gardenia wholemeal bread spread with Snow margarine

Lunch:- 1 Tien's Sandwich, 1 lunchbox of salad with the cauliflower as the main theme (box 1), 1 lunchbox of salad diced kiwi fruit, orange, tomato (box 2), 1 mug of warm water

Dinner:- 1 small bowl of pumpkin soup

Now (=P):- 1 mug of drink that has pear and dates Plain water now-and-then

The mug that I had mentioned is about 1.5 the capacity of an average cup. I couldn't finish box 2. I realise the eating lunch with 1 mug of warm water filled me up easily. I got to say that the sauces made the salads more tasty to me. I like that bacon-looking thing in box 1. Not sure what is that, got to ask Tien tomorrow. I think for tomorrow, I will bring only the Pumpkin Rice and 1 box 2. That should be suffice, since at night I will drop by to Food#03 again.

I do find that it would probably take some time for me to get used to raw vegetable's taste. I may consider using fruits to replace some of the meals. That's a bit like juicing is it?

My mom tried a bit of pumpkin soup and she likes it. But she doesn't appreciate the drink with the pear and dates. Oh, she likes that bacon-looking thing too.
